McClelland Sculpture Park+Gallery offers a wide variety of educational programs for all ages and abilities. We offer specific programs catering to a range of VCE subjects including behind the scene tours for VCE studio art. Our Art and Nature program explores ways artists respond to nature and environmental concerns. Our education programs address the Ausvels curriculum across a range of domains.
We are happy to work with teachers to tailor programs to meet the needs of students.
Teacher professional development programs include behind the scene viewings, curator led tours and artist workshops. These programs are intended to spark discussion and inspire ideas for the classroom. Programs can also be tailored to meet the needs of schools wanting whole school or team professional development.
Teachers and students are also welcome to attend our monthly Art Chat program which includes a range of artist, curator and industry professional talks. Art Chats are free.
Helen Macpherson Smith Trust
McClelland Sculpture Park+Gallery gratefully acknowledge the Helen Macpherson Smith Trust for the generous support of our education program: ‘Heavy Metal: Youth, sculpture and belonging’. This program supports young people from local secondary schools to design, implement and create family friendly interactive activities within the grounds at McClelland Sculpture Park+Gallery for all to enjoy.
The program provides the opportunity for young people to gain skills in planning, prioritising, constructing and budgeting by developing a project and seeing it through from start to finish. The students projects contribute to their community and develop a sense of belonging and inclusion. Visitors who partake in the activities are encouraged to share photos and reactions through social media networks providing the students an opportunity to receive feedback and see their contribution as valued and ongoing.
